About José Daniel Coronado
José Daniel Coronado is a Venezuelan trumpeter, vocalist, arranger, composer, and music producer originally from Carora, Lara State. A classically trained musician who began his studies at the age of eight, he brings a deep understanding of Venezuelan folk traditions to his work as a tenor and musical director of the Lara Somos Ensemble. Through this role, he explores the intersections of joropo, gaita, tonada, blues, and onda nueva, presenting a contemporary and globally informed interpretation of Venezuelan music. His artistic practice blends emotional intuition with literary and cultural references, most notably the works of Jorge Luis Borges, and draws on international experiences in countries such as Japan and England. Coronado is known for his innovative use of multitrack vocal techniques and for his arrangements and production work, including the ensemble’s acclaimed version of “Moliendo Café.” His current research investigates how Venezuelan folk music is evolving into a popular world music genre, emphasizing its adaptability, emotional resonance, and potential for global impact.
