Sistema Toronto offers free, after-school music and social development programming to children in Toronto’s underserved communities with the goal of helping them learn, grow, and cultivate important life skills, like empathy, problem-solving, collaboration, and listening. With 10 hours of weekly instruction in various disciplines, like strings, percussion, and choir, Sistema Toronto students are able to develop keen musical abilities while adopting skills that will help them contribute to building stronger communities as engaged citizens and future leaders.

The Sistema Toronto Honours Orchestra was founded in 2019 to highlight the enthusiasm and musicianship of Sistema Toronto’s most advanced students. Today the ensemble includes students in grades 5-12 from Sistema Toronto’s Jane/Finch, Lambton Park, Parkdale, and Scarborough Centres. 

Notable performances include silver standings at the Ontario String Association Festival and MusicFest Nationals, performances at Roy Thomson Hall, combined concerts with the Scarborough Philharmonic, UTSC Orchestra, and Sir Oliver Mowat CI, and with Reggae Artist Jah’Mila and her band.
